WRITTEN STATEMENT

When I heard that the theme is ‘This Makes Me Happy’, the first thing that came to my mind was photography and second, the beach. I then decided that I would incorporate those two things into my entry.

I enjoyed taking photos of Newcastle’s Bogey Hole because of the crystal clear water and the beautiful matte surfaces. I think those two things look calm and relaxing together and there is nothing that could look more peaceful.

The Bogey Hole makes me happy because you can go there on nice, hot days, or freezing cold days, but the temperature always seems to stay the same. Freezing! Your feet burn when you get out of the water, but it is always worth it in the end.

What amazes me about the Bogey Hole is that it was built by convicts, and every time I’m there I think about how hard it would be to carry the rocks down. When I was taking my photos I chose to use my dad’s Canon 7D and, for a couple of my photos, I used a filter lens to really accentuate the different colours and textures of my pictures.

For my sunset photo I used a slow two-second shutter. But for my wave photo I used a very quick shutter speed of 1/400.

My dad helped me do some light editing in a photo editing program to increase saturation of some colours.
